Personal and Private Feeds: tags, author, and more

Here’s the first release of updates and improvements for this year, focusing on enhancing the tagging options in personal and private feeds.

Personal Feeds: Categories / Tags and Author

You can now assign tags to individual personal feed posts, not just entire feed. Find the Categories / Tags option when you write a new post.

Also, you can specify the Author of your post. RSS specifications require author field to be in a specific format: email and/or author’s name (e.g., [email protected] (Author’s Name)). Otherwise, the feed won’t pass validation in RSS feed validators. If you don’t need your personal feed to be valid you don’t have to follow that format.

When added, author and tags will appear after the item’s description (post’s body).

Private feeds: categories / tags during creation

You can now assign tags to your private feeds during feed creation, not just while editing.

Some tags are assigned by default, but you can remove or replace them.

Tags assigned to private feeds will be saved in the feed’s channel under the <category> tag and won’t be visible in feed’s preview, unlike tags assigned to personal feed posts.

Tags in Feeds Box

In RSS Ground, tags are used not only in personal and private feeds, but also in public feeds and datafeeds.

To update or remove tags assigned to your feeds, just go to Feeds Box, search for your feed and double-click the Tags field. Then add/remove tags you need.

You can use Tags to search for your feeds in the Feeds Box. In the Filter option, use Search field. Enter your tag and press enter. If this tag was assigned to your feeds, they will be visible in search results.

Tags in Posting Campaigns

Content feed tags can be used in posting campaigns as hashtags for social media posts or as post tags/labels in blog posts.

When setting up or editing your posting campaign, go to the Posting section, Advanced settings, and activate the Use <category> as hashtag option.

If a feed item doesn’t have assigned tags in the <category> tag, the posting campaign will check the <category> tag in the feed’s channel.

What is a tag and why to use it?

In content marketing, tags and hashtags help organize and categorize your content, making it easier for users to find and engage with it.

Tags

Tags are keywords or phrases that you assign to your content, like blog posts, articles, or videos. They help describe the main topics or themes of your content. For example, if you write a blog post about digital marketing, you might use tags like “SEO,” “content strategy,” and “social media.”

Hashtags

Hashtags are specific to social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. They are created by adding a “#” symbol before a keyword or phrase, without spaces. For instance, if you share a post about a digital marketing event, you might use hashtags like #DigitalMarketing, #SEO, and #ContentStrategy.

Why use them?

  • Increase Visibility. By using relevant tags and hashtags, your content becomes more discoverable to people searching for those topics.
  • Enhance Engagement. Users interested in specific topics are more likely to engage with your content if they find it through tags and hashtags.
  • Organize Content. Tags help you categorize and organize your content, making it easier for your audience to navigate and find related posts.
  • Join Conversations. Hashtags allow you to join larger conversations and trends on social media, increasing your content’s reach.

So, What's next?

We are now working on a final update for personal feeds, that will allow you to use one of 3 major AI platforms for your content:  Open AI ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Deepseek. You will be able to quickly compose a new title for your post, re-write or translate existing one, quickly generate a list of tags for your post and create, re-write or translate your entire post in any way you want.  AI helpers will also be available in posting campaigns.

More information is coming. Stay tuned.
